I don’t know how people do it and make it look so easy. Filming for youtube is hard! Three weeks in and I’m finally ready to upload my first video, and it’s not that good. If it was a needle felting workshop, I would be telling my students that if you don’t like it and it doesn’t look right, then it’s not done yet. I thought about this repeatedly for the past few weeks, which is probably why it’s taken this long. I got to the point where I had to weigh up my need to get this how I wanted it and the need to get it done. The need to get it done won. SO I guess that this is my long way of saying, I’ve made a new youtube video, please be kind about it.
I’m hoping beyond hope that the process gets easier, that some magic takes hold, and like any other craft, practice makes perfect. To that end I’m going to keep going and adding more videos as I make them. On the plus side the chances of my becoming an internet sensation and being mobbed in the streets are low.
If you want to have a look at the fruits of my labour then check out my tutorials page for the link, and if you’re feeling the urge then drop me a comment, I always love to hear from you guys.
In the mean time I’m off to do some more editing, these videos won’t make themselves (unfortunately)
Well life is still very strange at the moment. Inside me the desire to work and use my time constructively is at constant battle with the overwhelming urge to sit in my pajamas all day watching supernatural and eating. The days are starting to merge and I can’t seem to find the energy to even work out how long we’ve been locked down now. It seems like days one moment and months the next. Don’t get me wrong, I started out with the best of intentions, the day before lock down began I left the house early, the roads deserted, and went to the shop to grab everything that I might need and would fit into two large IKEA bags. The bags still sit in the living room unopened.
In those first days, when I felt inspired, I turned my attention to updating some of my kits. I even got as far as designing three new larger picture kits. They’re ready to be printed up and tested once the printers is open again.
Lately I’ve been given a bit more focus as I’ve been working on a commission of a mobile for a friend. It’s helped me to get back to felting and has led me to think about making videos for YouTube again. Something I’ve previously considered but been too nervous to do. Now as times are changing it’s becoming more important for me and the business to change.
So what does that mean? Well a lot is uncertain, I’m not sure when we’ll get the go ahead to reopen the shop or when some of my suppliers will be able to reopen either. I do know that I’m going to be getting back to work in the next few days and making more stock ready for the website to reopen in the next few weeks. I’m going to be updating my business plan too, as it looks like the future will be digital. So if in a few weeks time you see a YouTube video of me felting please be kind. I’ll be the one looking uncomfortable and rocking the roots.
Stay safe guys, stay well, and I look forward to hopefully seeing you soon. Ruth
